IMPORTANT ISSUES FRANK BOYKIN WILL TACKLE ON YOUR BEHALF
PROTECTING FAMILY WAGE JOBS
The Port of Tacoma has more than 29,000 jobs … jobs that are critical in creating a good quality of life in Pierce County. While Pierce County works hard to address issues of housing affordability it is critical that the Port continues to maintain and grow more livable wage jobs. Looking for new opportunities for Green Jobs and safe jobs while protecting jobs that have supported Pierce County families for the Port’s existence must be a key objective. As the Port grows into the future, we cannot forget the workers and their families that have brought us this far.
COMMUNITY CENTERED ENGAGEMENT
The Port is a major part of the economic engine of this region. The everyday decisions of the Port affect the surrounding communities. Yet, many people know very little about the Port, its day to day operation or how it may affect them. It is critical that the Port begins real engagement with the community regularly and proactively. I will work to bring openness and visibility, create opportunities for engagement, and bring the conversations to the communities. That’s what being community centered means.
RESPONSIBLE AND SUSTAINABLE GROWTH
The world is changing, and real challenges and adaptations lie ahead. The Port has come a long way in its environmental stewardship, but there is a long way to go. The industries operating out of the Port are changing, and we will need to grow and change in partnership with them. We will have to make some important, critical, hard choices and difficult trade-offs and we can only do this if we are educated, engaged in dialogue and consider the impacts on everyone involved.
